Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, November 18, congratulated returning Governor Yahaya Bello for emerging victorious in the Kogi governorship election.
General. Buhari in a statement by his media aide, Femi Adesina, described the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate as a race well run and a victory well won.
Buhari also commended supporters of the APC for remaining steadfast and resolute during the election in the face of isolated incidents of violence.
The president also condoled families and loved ones of those who lost their lives as a result of acts of violence carried out by sponsored political thugs. during the exercise.
The president commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for discharging their responsibilities under difficult conditions.
He urged Governor Bello to take advantage of his reelection in building on the foundations already laid towards improving the lives of the people of Kogi state.
“He also enjoins the governor to imbibe the spirit of magnanimity in victory by extending a hand of partnership to opposition candidates, while urging those dissatisfied with the outcome of the election to approach the courts,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has sent a congratulatory message to the APC candidate David Lyon for emerging victorious in the Bayelsa state governorship election.
The president in a message on Monday, November 18, through his media aide, Femi Adesina, described Lyon’s victory as impressive.
He commended APC and Nigerians for exercising their civic rights in a peaceful manner despite pockets of unrest recorded in some locations.
He, however, condemned the loss of lives in Bayelsa, particularly prior to the election, the President commiserates with the families of the victims.
